In this tutorial I demonstrate the braided paracord bracelet.
This bracelet is made using the 4 strand round braid, which is incredibly useful not only for making bracelets, but also dog leashes, necklaces and many other items.
The round braids is also often called “the diamond braid” due to the color pattern it sometimes assumes.
So, let’s start building our bracelet!
For this bracelet you will need very little. Just the following:
- paracord 550, I recommend using 2 colors
- a lighter
- a pair of scissors
With this ready, let’s begin braiding!
We tie this bracelet using 3 steps. The first is to set up the cords and form the loop. The second step is to braid the bracelet. Finally we end it with a stopper knot. For the stopper knot I really like using the turk’s head terminal knot, it is a great way to finish many braids and works superbly well on this bracelet.
Fold your cords in half.
Form a slight loop at the top.
We now start braiding. Take your top left cord, pass it behind and through the middle of the cords on the left.
Then pass the same cord to the bottom on the left.
Now take the top right cord and go behind, through the middle of the two cords on the left.
And with the same cord, travel to the bottom on the right side.
Again take the top left cord and go behind and through the middle of the two right cords.
Then with the same cord, go back to the bottom on the left.
And again, using the top right cord, travel behind and through the middle of the cords on the left.
And back to the bottom on the right.
Again with the top left go between the two cords on the right.
Then back to the bottom on the left. As you can see, all we are doing is aleternating the top cords, going between the cords on the other side and back to the bottom of the side we came from.
Braid a sufficient length for your bracelet.
We are going to finish using a turk’s head terminal knot, shown below.
Arrange your cords, one to each side. We will be tying a crown knot.
Take your bottom cord and place it over the right.
Take the right cord and place it over the top cord.
Place the top cord over the left cord.
Finally, place the left cord into the loop created by the first cord.
Tighten up the knot and you have a crown knot.
Take your bottom cord, pass it under the right cord.
Then work the end through the middle of the crown knot.
Take the right cord, pass it under the top cord.
Then work the end through the middle of the knot.
Take the top cord and pass it under the left cord.
Work the end through the middle.
Finally, work in the last end through the middle the same way you did the last three.
Tighten the knot and trim the ends. With this, you bracelet is complete!
So, we made the “diamond braided bracelet”. For the spiral version of the 4 strand round braid, see the video below:
