Cobra knot paracord lanyard

In this tutorial we make one of the simplest paracord lanyards out there.paracord-lanyard

This lanyard is made using the cobra knot, also reffered to as the “square knot”. I have made projects using this knot, such as the simple paracord keychain and the cobra knot paracord bracelet. Just like these two projects, this is a simple and effective project.

With this said, let’s see what we need to make this lanyard.

Supplies

You will need the following supplies:

With these items at hand we can begin making the lanyard.

If you are using two colors of cord, start by joining your cords. Here I use the so called “Manny method”.

Fold the cord in half and feed the ends through the snap hook.simple-paracord-lanyard-tutorial (3 of 25)

Step 1: With your left cord go over the two middle cords and under the right cord.

Continue until you reach a length you like. At this point you can cut and melt the ends and your paracord lanyard is complete.

Below I show an alternative way of finishing the lanyard.

Finishing the lanyard with the “lanyard knot”

It may be fitting to end the lanyard in a nicer way. For this purpose we can tie a lanyard knot and feed the loop of the lanyard through the knot before tightening it. See how I do it below.

Make a loop with your left cord.

Place your right cord under the loop, facing up.

With your right cord travel over and under the left cord.

Continue over-under-over through the loop.

Place your top right cord over the left cord.

Then go under and through the middle.

With your bottom left end go under the other cord and over at the top.

Then go under and through the middle. You now have a lanyard knot tied.

Now also feed the loop of the lanyard through the middle of the knot.

Then you need to tighten and adjust the lanyard knot, then cut the ends and you have a nice looking lanyard.

It should look something like this.

Enjoy your new lanyard!
